Position Overview

This role will provide legal counsel and advice on employment related matters. Also, will handle most litigation matters (employment-related and others) for the Company.


1. Represents and defends the company against all types of claims (i.e., auto liability, EEO,

administrative complaints and lawsuits).

2. Analyzes claims to determine risk of liability and damages to the company. Reviews business practices and makes recommendations to mitigate legal risk.

3. Assists with preparation of discovery, including interrogatories, document preparation, and related motion practice.

4. Develops and maintains a process to ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations. Researches and documents prevailing wage requirements and concerns.

5. Oversees an ADA compliance program and leave management processes, provides guidance on accommodation requests, and develops and implements training materials and on-going communication.

6. Provides advice and support to Human Resources and other business stakeholders on employment law matters.

7. Researches legal issues and maintains an awareness of current federal and state laws and regulations governing disability and leaves of absence.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree and admission to practice in at least one state required, with admission to the Tennessee Bar required within a reasonable period
  • 5-10 years of experience practicing law required
  • Some exposure to ADA, FMLA, and wage and hour issues required
  • Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution programs required
  • First Chair litigation and litigation management experience required
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing e-discovery required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment-related laws and regulations (e.g., ADA, EEO, FLSA)
  • Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution programs and best practices
  • Drafting of civil pleadings and motions.  Writing sample required
  • Executive presence and relationship management skills
  • Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Coaching and counseling skills
  • Leadership and project management skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with qualitative and quantitative data
  • Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentations
