Position Overview

Responsible for analyses and accounting for selected complex and/or judgmental accounts and transactions. Assists with the preparation of internal and external financial statements and the budgeting and forecasting of selected corporate overhead departments. Serves as a liaison to operational and functional departments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes accounting for selected complex and/or judgmental areas, such as the allowance for bad debts and medical and primary casualty reserves.
  • Prepares accounting for corporate level transactions such as IT capital projects, intangible assets and debt and related interest costs.
  • Assists in assessing the accounting impacts of new business items and changes in the business.
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial reports (such as the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows and roll forward of equity) and selected external financial statement footnotes.
  • Analyzes accounts to assist with the annual budgeting and in-year forecasting of selected overhead departments. 
  • Prepares and reviews assigned journal entries and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
  • Participates in the maintenance and development of accounting processes and controls to mitigate financial risks.
  • Serves as a liaison to operational and functional departments as an accounting team member.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years public accounting experience or 5+ years corporate accounting experience preferred
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and accounting practices
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Access and Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and accounting software (e.g., JD Edwards, Cognos)
  • Ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Detail oriented and highly motivated with strong work ethic
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
